The Everyday Chawan with Ai Kanazawa

The Everyday Chawan with Ai Kanazawa

October 11, 2020, 10 am - 12pm PDT, zoom meeting

The popularity of drinking matcha powdered tea has grown exponentially in the U.S. in recent years due to its health benefits, great taste, and ease of preparation. Over the last 25 years, matcha sales in the United States have increased five-fold to more than $10 billion in 2020 but it seems that very few American potters are jumping into the growing market by making more matcha bowls. Are you thinking of adding matcha bowls to your line of work?

Join Ai Kanazawa of Entoten for a Zoom session to explore the characteristics of a functional chawan for preparing straight matcha. Ai has been practicing Chado, the Way of Tea, for the past seven years at Urasenke Tea School in San Diego, and she will offer insights that will make a bowl easy to use for matcha preparation for tea drinkers at home. She will also talk about some of the characteristics that tea practitioners might look for in a chawan for use in the Way of Tea.
